Trump’s Executive Order 14324 on Tariffs and De Minimis: What It Means For U.S. Citizens
Starting August 29, 2025, a new U.S. government rule titled “Suspending Duty Free De Minimis Treatment for all Countries” (Executive Order 14324) goes into effect.
- The previous rule allowed international packages valued at $800 or less to enter the U.S. duty-free. This exemption is ending.
- All shipments entering the U.S. —no matter the value— will now be subject to import duties, taxes, and customs clearance.
What this means for YOU (U.S. customers):
- Any product made outside the U.S. will cost more due to tariffs.
- Many merchants choose to “hide” the US Import Tax in their price. Hidden or not, the tariffs apply, and Americans end up paying more than the rest of the world for the same products.
- As we are located in Canada, we are required to collect a 35% tax (tariff) from you and remit it to the US government on your behalf.
Update 2025/10/25:
Trump just announced an additional 10% tariff effective today, raising the tariff to 45%.
