Below are the Floor Plan and Interior Layout of our Ford Transit High Roof, 148" Wheelbase Extended Length, DIY Camper Van. These 2D plans contain most of the dimensions of the inside layout and are to scale. The inside of a van is far from being square, so keep in mind that the dimensions might vary depending on where they're taken (e.g. at floor level VS ceiling level).
The intent of these plans is to provide the general interior layout of our van; for more detailed information about individual components, refer to our Build Journal:

Nice To Meet You.

Hello! We’re Isabelle and Antoine  In 2017 we sold our house (and everything in it), quit our engineering careers and moved into our self built campervan. We’ve been on the road since then and every day is an opportunity for a new adventure; we’re chasing our dreams and hopefully it inspires others to do the same!
Hi there,
Thank you for all the info and dimensions, but where oh where are the dimensions of Width??? Lots of information on the Heights and length….
You’ll find all the width on page 3 of the pdf 🙂
Hello Isabelle and Antoine,
Absolutely love your site!! I have used many of the ideas with my own build (2019 RWD medium height Transit). How did you resolve the “low tire pressure’ notification when you installed the BFG ATs? We went with the 255 70/16s as well…. They add a nice bit of security in the off grid world of the US West.
I am really appreciative of the amazing detail you two have provided for all us wanna-be-yous.
larry
We run the BFG per door’s sticker recommended pressure, so we do not get a “low tire pressure” notification. If you do, you probably need to train the TPMS sensor as described here: https://faroutride.com/ford-tpms/
Good luck!
Hi!
Your info is awesome. My husband and I are getting a 2020 AWD 148in high roof transit in a few months. I plan to purchase all of your guides, but for now I have one question: Do your Seats swivel? If not, do you happen to know how that would affect the layout?
Thank you!
They both swivel. You’ll find our installation instructions here: https://faroutride.com/build-journal/
cheers
Est-ce que l’outil de plan peut s’appliquer à un Skoolie? Je cherche des outils pour bâtir notre propre véhicule à partir d’un autobus de 24 passagers et plus.
Merci!
Hi I’m wondering where you got the netting/fabric for behind the bed Before the doors ?
The part that rolls up / opens haha !
Great website truley impressed with the build, I’ll be starting my bike storage using your guide soon.
Thankyou

Hi, We’re getting our Ford Transit next week and follow your site but is not sure exactly what is step 1 after planning the interior, is it a) treat the roof, b) install the roof rack, c) then solar panels, then d) the insulation. where can I find the steps, please? Thanks for a great site.
Regards Mimmie

Bonjour,
avez-vous des plans pour 4 personnes dans un Ford Transit toit haut et 148wb ? 2 adultes et 2 enfants
Merci !
hey, just wondering how tall you guys are and what size Bronson antoine has.
We both have medium Bronson et we’re 5’8″ or 5’9″.
You could probably go with something like 35-36″ instead of 40″ for garage height…
Hi
Well done, good luck, stay safe.
I am in the uk, i am just about to start a conversion on a 2013 4×4 long wheelbase high roof transit.i was looking about, as you do and came accross your page. Am i able to purchase plans etc or would it be a bit pointless because i am in Scotland.
Thanks
Kenyy
Kenny…. yours will be a MK7 (if 2013?) so will have very different dimensions to the L4H3 that they have used for the plans. Pretty cool that you have a 4×4 though. Very rare and special! I am just selling my 08 MWB/MHR and starting a 2012 LWB HR. Ive looked at using vanspace but the reviews are not great.
Yes i know its hard getting good advice.. going to start with the outside … 4×4 upgrades stone slides , undercarage protection, suspension wheels and roof wrack… solar panels and power then move inside so plenty of time… take it easy guys and stay safe
enjoy the information. I do have a question in reference to the screens over the doors. Did you buy these or make them?
Bought them: https://faroutride.com/mosquito-screens
Antoine and Isabelle are you still living the dream?
I’m embarking on the conversion path and your wiring diagrams are outstanding. I’m an engineer as well so the design and implementation is not the hard part. Where to start and accounting for dependancies are a bit daunting.
Thanks for your time in making this so sharable that other can enjoy some of the same freedom you are!
John
Hi!
Yeah, still living the dream 🙂 We just published an update on our situation: https://faroutride.com/april-2020/
Good luck with your build!!
Antoine
Thank you so much for your wealth of knowledge. I got my Ford Transit this weekend from a guy who has started the conversion process following your website! I’m excited to finish it with my own flare.
One quick question that I haven’t been able to find an answer to anywhere yet.. what did you end up doing with the factory wiring harness/bundle that goes along the driver’s side from the front to the back? I’ve noticed it hanging around in some of your progress pictures, but haven’t found any explanation for where it went yet.
Thanks so much!
It’s simply hidden behind our cabinets and stuff; we didn’t re-locate it or spliced it…
In the very back of the van, it’s hidden above the ceiling. In the bedroom area (along the driver-side wall), it’s behind the storage cubes. Along the overhead storage (kitchen), it’s hidden in a “hollow frame” we made (you should see this in our van tour: https://faroutride.com/van-tour).
Cheers!
I just wanted to say thanks for all of this information. It really is amazing. At 69 I’m going to build my transit van to my spec’s using your guidelines. I love the information you provide. My wife and I owned a Leisure Travel Serenity motorhome and it was a nightmare! The best in class motorhome was best in being in the shop! Brand new on top of everything. It taught my wife and I a valuable and expensive lesson . We do not like RV parks and like to be off grid. So a motorhome was a bad choice. A transit make sense. I’m a photographer using huge film cameras and based on your design basics I can make a van that works for us. Also I’m an accomplished woodworker so that part i have down. Should have done this in the first place. Thanks again
Jim
Hi Jim,
Sorry you had a bad experience… But good luck with your new project! Have fun building and using it 🙂
